…and a New Chapter of Flour & Co Begins

It’s with some tears and a huge dose of nostalgia that I share with you our closure as of Tuesday, January 31, 2017. We’ve loved being a part of our Lower Nob Hill neighborhood and your daily lives over the past (almost) four years. You’ve made us soar and the years fly, by giving us your business, friendship, and support. Thank you so very much for being a part of this amazing journey.

flashback to pre-opening – oh how true this is…

On the other side of tears is some relief, excitement, and opportunity. With two little boys at home (8mos and 2yrs), my family calls. I’m so looking forward to spending more time with them and getting to know a work-life balance. This lovely city that we live in has been wonderful to us and we’ve seen so many successes and joys over the years, but it has also kicked the *flour* out of us a time or two. I’m ready for a little rest and variety beyond baked goods.

However, I’ve got to have some Flour & Co in my life. When one door closes another opens…this time in the form of an online Flour & Co shop. I’ll be doing it on the side (must get job), but I can’t wait to continue spreading the love. Our online shop will feature our Nutty Granola to start. If you haven’t had it, it’s a breakout star at the bakery, one that has depth, lots of nuts, and hugs the line of salty over sweet. Who knows…maybe you’ll see it in local stores too. We’ll see just how many doors open.

I also look forward to getting back into recipe testing, eating other people’s baked goods, and all of the baking-related things that got me here in the first place. I plan to blog about it once I take a little break, so follow our blog for the latest.

I, and my wonderful team, send great big hugs and thanks to all of you. We hope to continue the friendships that have been forged by Flour & Co even after this chapter ends.

Pre-Order Holiday Desserts…today!

With a week and some change until Christmas, we’re preparing our kitchen for some major holiday pie baking!  Need to relieve some stress??  We can help with the dessert!

We highly suggest that you pre-order your goodies for pick up the two days before Christmas.  The earlier the better!  While we plan to have desserts on hand these two days for last minute grabs, they may go quickly.

To pre-order, simply stop by, call, or email (info@flourandco.com) your order by December 20th.  Note: If you leave a message or send an email to place an order, your order will not be complete until you hear back from us, and we take your credit card information.  Another note: These desserts will be available all month long for special order.  We just need 24 hour notice.

Here are a few other important details…

Corporate Pie Deliveries – we’re delivering pies to your company!  You just need to order 12 pies (as gifts or submit a bulk team order) and we’ll deliver for free on the 23rd and 24th.  It’s a great perk for the team and a little less running around for everyone.  Dessert for the family will be complete!

Cookie Decorating Kits – we’ll bring the goods to you including sugar cookie cutouts, colored frosting in decorating bags, and sprinkles.  As always, everything is all natural and delish!  Minimum 20 people, 72 hour notice required.

Holiday Gifts– we have a number of pretty holiday gift packs that are prefect for hostess gifts, corporate gifts, teacher treats, friends and family.   We can customize them too.  Just ask, reserve ahead, and we’ll have them ready for pick up at your convenience!

December ‘Raising Dough’ – We’re collecting toys for the Fire Fighter’s Toy Program in San Francisco.  Drop off your new, unwrapped toys for kids in our bin by December 23rd.  We’ll drop them off before Christmas.

Holiday Hours: Christmas Eve 6:30a-2p; Christmas Day closed; New Year’s Eve 6:30a-2p; New Year’s Day closed.  All other days we will be open our usual 6:30a to 4pm.

Come & Decorate a Cake with Us!

You know what the the 1st of October means?!?  Time to dial up that spirit, beginning with the fall variety and quickly followed by the holiday variety.  We’ve got just the thing to help!

Join us for an evening of spiced cake with pumpkin buttercream frosting, a plethora of decorating tools, plus our expert tutelage…not to mention old friends, new friends, bubbly, cheese and crackers.  We’re thinking we’ll be ready to face the end of 2016 after a night like this!

The Bakery Life: Countdown to Thanksgiving

Happy November!  We’ve been getting in to the holiday spirit via smells of baking pumpkin, apples, and butternut squash.  The weather helps too with it dipping into the blustery 50’s at night!

Raising Dough: Girls on the Run, September 2015

We’re excited to get movin’ this month by featuring Girls on the Run as our September Raising Dough organization.  Each month our Raising Dough Campaign brings a collaborative, neighborhood approach to raising a little money and awareness for a great, locally represented organization.  Our friends and neighbors drop their change in our donation box, we match the donations, and we plan a group volunteer event (whenever possible) so that we can experience the organization beyond handing over a check.

Girls on the Run is focused on inspiring adolescent girls to live a ‘joyful, healthy, and confident’ life.  It’s about living without boundaries and going after dreams.  Running plays a big role in teaching these life skills.

The Bakery Life: It’s Starting to Look Like Flour & Co!

The construction sight at 1398 University Avenue in Berkeley is soon going to undeniably look and feel like Flour & Co.  We were seeing major hints of the warm colors and earthy tones this past week.  Wood seemed to be the week’s theme.

Ryan spent the majority of the weekend refurbishing wood tables.  We also sanded and sealed some long wood planks for a dining room design element (you won’t be able to miss it!).

Garret at California Epoxy spent the last few weeks refinishing the floors.  They are looking dynamite!

Oh, but that’s not all.  Lights are coming on, water is being plumbed, walls are being painted, the credit card is getting more exercise than it can handle, and we started interviewing our future teammates today.

With September approaching, we’re going to be intensely working the next few weeks to ready the space, people, and baked goodies.  Before you know it, you’ll smell cinnamon swirl bread baking in our ovens!  Can’t wait to share it.
