Come & Decorate a Cake with Us!

You know what the the 1st of October means?!?  Time to dial up that spirit, beginning with the fall variety and quickly followed by the holiday variety.  We’ve got just the thing to help!

Join us for an evening of spiced cake with pumpkin buttercream frosting, a plethora of decorating tools, plus our expert tutelage…not to mention old friends, new friends, bubbly, cheese and crackers.  We’re thinking we’ll be ready to face the end of 2016 after a night like this!

$130 is your ticket to fall spirit (all included), so RSVP now to reserve a spot.  Tell all of your friends too!  We’re hosting a class in San Francisco on October 9th and Berkeley on October 15th, so the bay can’t keep you from spirit!!  Note: this is a basics class, so if you can’t begin to decorate a cake, but would like to learn, this is the class for you!  Here are the details:

The Bakery Life: It’s Starting to Look Like Flour & Co!

The construction sight at 1398 University Avenue in Berkeley is soon going to undeniably look and feel like Flour & Co.  We were seeing major hints of the warm colors and earthy tones this past week.  Wood seemed to be the week’s theme.

Ryan spent the majority of the weekend refurbishing wood tables.  We also sanded and sealed some long wood planks for a dining room design element (you won’t be able to miss it!).

Garret at California Epoxy spent the last few weeks refinishing the floors.  They are looking dynamite!

Oh, but that’s not all.  Lights are coming on, water is being plumbed, walls are being painted, the credit card is getting more exercise than it can handle, and we started interviewing our future teammates today.

With September approaching, we’re going to be intensely working the next few weeks to ready the space, people, and baked goodies.  Before you know it, you’ll smell cinnamon swirl bread baking in our ovens!  Can’t wait to share it.

The Bakery Life: Thanksgiving 2014 at Flour & Co

Wow!  It’s hard to believe we’re about to embark on our 2nd Thanksgiving at Flour & Co.  We feel a bit more prepared this year, a little less tired, and as always, we are so looking forward to the holiday season.  Thanksgiving is my personal favorite.  What’s better than a day filled with family, friends, feasts, and honoring or giving thanks to the people and things in our lives.  There’s so much to be thankful for!

We’re warming up our ovens for an action-packed season!  But, if you still have your heart set on baking at home, our freezer will be packed with bake-at-home helpers, such as pie shells, pie dough, and unbaked buttermilk biscuits too.

For homemade, baked desserts, here’s what we’ve got in store for you:

If you want to leave dessert to us, we highly suggest that you pre-order your goodies for pick up the two days before Thanksgiving.  The earlier the better!  While we plan to have desserts on hand these two days for last minute grabs, they may go quickly.

To pre-order, simply stop by, call, or email (info@flourandco.com) your order by November 23rd.  Note: If you leave a message or send an email to place an order, your order will not be complete until you hear back from us, and we take your credit card information.  Another note: These desserts will be available all month long for special order.  We just need 24 hour notice.

Thanksgiving Hours:

We will be closed Thanksgiving Day, November 27th, as well as the day after, Friday, November 28th.  We will be open regular business hours (6:30am-6pm daily) all other days Thanksgiving week.

November ‘Raising Dough’:

We have so much to be thankful for, but not every one is as fortunate.  Our Raising Dough charity for November is the SF Food Bank.  We want to help put food on peoples’ tables this Thanksgiving.  Bring a can of food for our collection or drop your loose change in our collection box when you come in to place your order, or pick up, or get your daily coffee.  Volunteer with us!  November 11, 6-8pm.  Email info@flourandco.com if you’d like to join! We thank you for anything that you can do to help!

Thanksgiving & Holiday Events:

We’ve got some fun things planned the holidays to get into the spirit!  Participation in these events requires an RSVP and space is limited.

Friday, December 5, 6:30pm-8pm –  Holiday Cookie Decorating.    Come hang out with us!  You’ll get 6 freshly baked sugar cut out cookies to decorate and take home.  We’ll provide all of the decorating supplies, as well as some refreshments (bubbly included) and snacks.  Christmas music will be supplied as well! All you need to bring is a festive spirit and your favorite Christmas cookie recipe to share with the group.  (This is an adult event with a limit of 16 people; RSVP required; $35 per person)

Saturday, December 6, 4pm-5pm – Kids Holiday Cookie Decorating.  Each child will get 4 freshly baked sugar cut out cookies to decorate and take home.  We’ll provide all of the decorating supplies, as well as cider and a snack for each child.  An adult must be present for each child or group of children.  (This is a kids event with a limit of 8 kids; RSVP required; $15 per child).

Monday & Tuesday, December 23 & 24 – Cookies for Santa!  We know how busy it gets as Christmas approaches, so let us prepare Santa’s cookies.  Only thing left for you to do: Arrange them on a pretty plate and place in Santa’s favorite spot.  The box will include 6 mini cookies: sugar cutout, chocolate peanut butter sandwich, and ginger molasses.  (Santa’s cookies must be pre-ordered by December 21; $8.50)

Thanksgiving & Holiday Gift Baskets – we have a number of pretty holiday gift packs that are prefect for hostess gifts, corporate gifts, teacher treats, friends and family.   We can customize them too.  Just ask, reserve ahead, and we’ll have them ready for pick up at your convenience!

The Bakery Life: Fun with Videos that Make Us Hungry!

We have some creative minds on our team!  One of our former (and missed) team members, Helena, put together this mini video on the testing of our new summer sandwich.  It’s on our menu now, with the addition of heirloom tomatoes (we were testing and filming when heirlooms weren’t in season). We call it the Greek: heirloom tomato, cucumber, olive tapenade, arugula, and feta herb spread on ciabatta.
